Overview
The FLA return is frequently overlooked and its omission is a common FEMA non-compliance. We compile the required financial data and file your FLA return correctly and on time through the RBI FLAIR portal.
As long as a foreign investment position exists, the FLA return is required every year.
What's included

How we approach it
Frequently asked questions
Who must file the FLA return?
Any company, LLP or eligible entity holding foreign assets or liabilities from FDI or ODI.
When is it due?
By 15 July each year (based on the previous financial year), with a revised filing later if final accounts differ.
Do we file even with no new transaction?
Yes — as long as a foreign investment position exists, the FLA return is required annually.
What's the difference between the provisional and revised FLA return?
The provisional return uses unaudited figures if audited accounts aren't ready by the deadline; a revised return is filed later once audited accounts are finalised, if the figures differ.
Does FLA apply to LLPs, or only companies?
It applies to LLPs and other eligible entities too, not just companies — anyone holding qualifying foreign assets or liabilities.
What's the penalty for missing the FLA deadline?
A missed FLA return is treated as a FEMA reporting contravention, which can require compounding to regularise — we prioritise this filing precisely because it's often overlooked.
